With the establishment of NAMO Medical Education and Research Institute in the U.T. of DNH & DD, the Department of Community Medicine has been a dynamic entity that plays an eminent role in promoting health and well-being of the community with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service.
The department at NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute dynamic is dedicated to training future medical professionals for delivering comprehensive healthcare services, including promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care for both Undergraduate as well as Post Graduate students.
The department has its Rural Health Training Centre- RHTC, Kilvani, located 10 km and Urban Health Training Centre- UHTC, Rakholi, situated 6 km from the institute that serves as a key facility for hands-on training and community healthcare services. It conducts regular immunization programs, antenatal care services, and deliveries, ensuring real-world exposure for interns and postgraduates.
The RHTC- Kilvani also houses a Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU) that runs under ICMR grant-in-aid, fostering research and innovation in rural healthcare.
The department is also running the U.T.’s flagship initiative- Village Adoption Program (VAP) wherein the students from medical, nursing, and allied healthcare have adopted all the villages of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. With an aim to understand social determinants of health and percolate the knowledge of outreach services of the Government to reached and unreached population, students are involved in the rural services thereby help in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in different sectors and also to bridge the urban and rural inequalities. The program gained national recognition when the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi acknowledged it in Mann Ki Baat on 25th September 2022.
Beyond training and service, the department is deeply engaged in various national health programs and contributing in policy decisions and public health research, contributing to evidence-based advancements in healthcare delivery. Through its initiatives, the department continues to strive in developing competent medical professionals capable of addressing evolving public health needs.
